|Originally hailing from the River Danube in central Europe, this carnivore from the carp family made their way over to French waters ten years ago.
They make for great sport fishing and are a firm favourite with anglers due to the difficulty of finding, catching and landing them.
With their sleek build made for currents and oversized tail fins, asp are powerful fish that shoot to the surface and literally ram into the whitefish they are so partial to. Many an angler has been hooked at first sight!
This fish sets pulses racing and brows furrowing in excitement and concentration.
But what a thrill to see that topwater lure go down in a spray of water!
|Fishing for asp is an active affair that involves casting and retrieving in often quick succession. This aggressive predator hunts mostly near the water’s surface and responds well to stickbaits, jerkbaits, lipless plugs and metal lures 7-12 cm long. The blanks must have a good casting action, fast enough to make the lure dance but with enough bend to fight the fish without unhooking it.
