Like bass, pollack are very popular with anglers. It offers great sport, going for live bait just as eagerly as lures. And once the hook is set it puts up a fight and a half. It is usually found inshore but bigger specimen are caught farther out. On the open sea it is not uncommon to find pollack schooling around reef edges or wrecks, with some reaching or exceeding a meter in length. In these conditions, baitcasting reels produce best results. They offer better control when lowering the lure, more comfortable handing and often make for a lighter tackle – turning the rod into a winch! |
