Traditional fishing, yes, but with quality equipment!

Trout in drift fishing seems at first sight relatively simple, even simplistic. The equipment is indeed reduced to its simplest expression: line, weights and a hook or a leaded nymph. In reality, it is one of the most complex trout fisheries where the angler must constantly adapt his lead, his bait and his line to each position he encounters. The action of fishing consists in picking out each vein of water by leading his line in order to present his bait, carried by the current, in the most natural way possible. The touch is manifested by a simple slowdown or stop in the drift and spontaneity and concentration are required. This type of fishing requires adapted equipment to optimize the casting and the line control while offering an optimal resonance and progressiveness.

Pêche au toc

Round, precise and sensitive

The blanks will have to be good casters essentially on light weights (nymph of 0,5gr for example) while preserving a precision, a flexibility and a roundness necessary not to unhook the fish. The couple roundness/sensitivity is essential on these fishing of precisions where one must shell each vein of water and strike at the quarter of second. There is no room for error in trout fishing : every mistake is paid for in cash! The fish often refuses the bait when it is badly presented and if it is bitten it jumps, runs down the current and is easily unhooked.

The selected blanks have each their area of predilection going from the small stream to the big river. They will allow you to pass a leaded nymph as well as natural baits.  We have chosen three blanks in the ST (Steelhead) series from North Fork Composites that will allow you to combine efficiency in fishing action and control of the fight. These blanks offer the ability to go down to very thin lines at the bottom while still being able to direct the fight to a big fish. They are either made of DELTA fiber (carbon+fiber) or IM carbon (intermediate modulus) and in 2 equal strands in order to facilitate the passage in the congested zones as well as the changes of spot with a means of transport. Compared to traditional 3 or 4 pieces toc blanks, their 2 strand design allows them to reduce the hard points generated by the hooks and thus improve the progressiveness and limit the risks of breaking or stalling the fish.

The length and the power are to be adapted according to the fished spots.

  1. ST1002-2 DELTA 3m 2/7gr. Blank ideal for small rivers, big versatility of the blank and good power reserve for a blank of this weight.
  2. ST1302-2 DELTA 3,96m 2/9gr Blank adapted to medium to large rivers, superb fighting curve and excellent casting, at ease on natural baits or leaded nymphs
  3. Stn 1162-2 IM 3,56m 1/3gr the most atypical of the three blanks: don't be fooled by its pronounced arrow and its slow action, it is a formidable blank in nymphing with toc allowing to go down in diameter of wire and to dry quickly the fish, with it the unhooked ones do not exist any more! Excellent sensitivity despite its action.
