Kanalgratis, the well known Swedish channel has gained a huge audience throught two great fishing competition shows: one for pike (Fly vs. Jerk) and another dedicated to perch (Perch Pro). In 2021, they're back with a new one centered on another great European predator: it's time for a Zander Pro!
We wanted to combine the high level of technical design one can reach with our Rodhouse products with the wide availability of Fiiish lures. We have a lot in common, and we really share a vision of fishing, so it was only natural to combine the strength of our two French companies to build a team and enter that first edition of the Zander Pro.
It took 6 months of work to get the Team where we wanted, six months to plan for any contingency, to get intel about the spots, and to define a strategy against the always sharp Northern teams. Our own crew was made of our best Zander hunters, Tony for Rodhouse and Stéphane for Fiiish.
The rules are simple. The teams may fish wherever they want in Europe for 3 days, and each day 3 points are given: one for the number of fish caught, one for the biggest, and one for the longuest op 5 fish. Each day has, the teams must fish in a given situation, and techniques are regulated. Day one is linear fishing on boats (no vertical). Day 2 is shore fishing. Day 3: anything goes. The team with the highest score at the end of the 3 days wins the Zander Pro.
Day 1 : Linear fishing. During our pre-fishing sessions, zanders were found between 2 and 7m deep. NFC's SJ-703 X-Ray in baitcasting configuration proved to be a killer combo with 5 and 10g Mud Diggers. This blank is a weapon to cast light plastics in dam reservoirs, allowing to fish as much water as possible. On Day 1, as the day before, the weather was overcast and cool. Fish were deep and more lethargic. In such conditions, a Black Minnow 120 with a 12g head gave good results for deeper fishing. Tony changed rods and chose the more powerful Rodbuilder's Republic Statement 724. With a fantastic sensitivity, this blank is perfectly suited to linear fishing for zander with the deadly Black Minnow.
Day 2 : Shore fishing. In order to reach as far as possible, to have good control of the lure's animation, and to strike really hard, Tony et Stéphane chose NFC's MB 805-1 HM. The lure rating of this blank allows to cast anything from a 10g Mud Digger to a 18g Black Minnow. It's length (2m43) gives casting and striking power, and long distance lure control. Its high modulus fiber and blank geometry provide an incredible level of perceptive finesse in spite of the length.
Day 3 : Free fishing. Tony and Stéphane were finally able to use the best technique of all to hunt zanders: vertical fishing. The spots were around 11m deep, and the best lure this day was a 10g Mud Digger. Unsurprisingly, the choice blanks were Rainshadow's vertical killers: the Immortal 62MX and 68MX. Tony mainly fished the 62MX which clearly was at home in this situation. This blank eas a vertical wonder.
Rodbuilder's republic Statement 724 Original : 2m18 5-25g. Exclusively distributed by Rodhouse, it's an extremely sensitive blank, particularly suited to fish plastics.
North Fork Composites MB 805-1 HM : 2m43, 10-30gr : Its length is clearly an asset to fish from the shore. It's geometry offers great power, and an amazing sensitivity.
Rainshadow IMMWS62MX : 1m87, 5-15gr : Undisputably one of Rodhouse's legendary blanks. It's the perfect choice for vertical fishing with 5-17g heads.
