Be effective even at great distances

Lure fishing for trout in large to medium sized rivers can be confusing when you are used to fishing small rivers. The equipment can sometimes seem powerful but this is necessary given the power of the fish. In this type of biotope the trout seems to be everywhere and nowhere... Fishing the edges, the famous bank opposite (but don't forget to fish the one you are on...) is a sure thing and requires great precision, both in the casting and in the animation. Sometimes you just need to lengthen your casts and comb the spots, either in downstream drifting or in upstream fishing. Knowing how to alternate between swimming fish and soft lures depending on the position and the mood of the fish is often a guarantee of success. On this type of waterway the trout are often of good size and put the equipment to the test. A fast rod for the precision of the animations and round in fight to avoid the stalls is essential.

Blanks to tickle the opposite bank

Blanks should be good casters and capable of accurately animating lures at long distances. A good reserve of power and a roundness is necessary not to unhook the big fish frequenting this type of watercourse. There is no room for error on trout lures, especially in large rivers! A big river trout is a formidable fighter who will not give up until it is in the net. The fight, all in power, is generally punctuated by candles, the fish helping itself to the current to accentuate the pressure on the material. A powerful but progressive blank is needed to counter these torpedoes. The blanks selected have each their own field of predilection, from the UL adapted to the big river to the polyvalent rod par excellence. They will allow you to pass a swimmer fish as well as a spoon or a soft lure.  We opted for two blanks in the FW (Freshwater) series from North Fork Composites and a blank from Rainshadow. These blanks are good casters and offer the ability to lead the fight on a big fish while remaining playful on small fish to have fun in all situations. These are specialist and top of the range blanks.

  1. FW702-2 IM : 2m13, 2-7g, 2 equal strands : Blank ideal to animate finely a minnow at long distance, as comfortable on a n°1 spoon as on a small swimming fish, the ideal blank for fine approaches in big rivers. A 50 contact or a 44 incite are an occasional high range.
  2. FW704 SM : 2m13 3.5-15g, one piece : Blank perfect for all swimfish fishing, big power reserve and superb fighting action. This SM version is more forgiving in weight and animation and will accept a d-contact 85.
  3. IMMWS 76ML : 2m28 3-12g single piece : A very versatile blank that is equally at home on both soft and swimfish. Its length is an asset for prospecting the famous bank opposite. It has a nice fighting curve and good power reserve, a very resonant blank for tactile fishing.
