A real playground

Reservoir fishing involves fishing for trout that have been released into a body of water that has been designed to allow fishing all year round, even during closed seasons. This practice, which is widespread in other countries such as Italy and Japan, has only recently arrived in France, but since there has been a championship with competitions, the number of reservoirs and participants has continued to grow. The principle of the competition is simple: catch as many fish as possible in a given time. It's all about speed fishing. Fishing is done with lures such as swimming fish, crankbaits, blades, surface lures, wobbling spoons and buttons. Buttons are micro wobbling spoons covered in hair to imitate insects. They can weigh as little as 0.2gr. All with single hooks without barbs. The rod limit is set at 7.3 feet (2.21m).

Fast and progressive

As you will have realised, since trout are basically fish that make jumps and have a tendency to stall, and since single hooks without barbs are compulsory to preserve them, we use light rods that will absorb the movements of the fish and limit stalling. As fishing time is limited, rather than changing lures, we change rods. Generally, participants use at least 3 rods with different lures. In the morning, the fish are less wary. The fishing is done with flashy lures fairly close to the bank. When the fish have heard hundreds of lures falling into the water, they become harder to lure. Casting distance then becomes very important.

  1. Rodbuilder's Republic Area Super Flanker : 1m88 0.5-5gr, 2 equal pieces: This blank is very versatile. It's equally at home with ripples, cranks and soft lures. The action is very different from the TR68 (very round). This Area Super Flanker is faster, less supple but still super fun and super sensitive.
  2. Matagi TR68 Super big pound : 2m03 1.5-3.5g, 2 equal pieces: A new blank created especially for the arena. Its high degree of progressiveness makes it ideal for speed fishing and eliminates the risk of stalling.
  3. Rodbuilders' Republic PPS 610 UL-2 : 2m08, 0.8-4g, 2 equal pieces: A longer blank for longer casting. When there's a lot of fishing pressure on the spot and small lures need to be cast long distances, this blank makes all the difference. The ideal blank for the end of the run. It's a progressive blank that avoids stalls and offers incredible value for money.
